I was recently asked, "What's your number one top tip for new business owners just starting out?"
There's a reason I'm in the business I'm in!
...so it's probably no surprise to learn that my top tip for new business owners is:
You need a website in today's business age. (You're probably thinking, "I already knew that.")
And you want to make sure that it properly represents you, your brand and your message to your audience. People will totally judge your whole company on your website, whether that's fair or not. So you want to make sure it looks professional, operates on the majority of devices, and really speaks to your audience - their wants, needs, abilities, situations and pain points.
But here's the main piece of my tip for you today -- you want to FULLY OWN and CONTROL your website.
A few weeks ago, I was the target of a Facebook scam.
Well... actually... I was the pawn and all my friends were the target!
I immediately went live (interrupting a meeting in progress!) to alert my friends to what was happening and how to "look for the signs" to avoid being fooled.
I'm SO excited to announce my new FREE Video Series!
Do you use a website for your business? I've got several ideas that not only will help your website, they'll help your whole business!
I created a free on-demand video workshop that walks you through a system guaranteed to help you find some hidden treasure!
You can't ask your friends / audience on Facebook to LIKE, COMMENT or SHARE on your posts and videos any more...!?
If you do, they suppress your posts, and hide them!
Even inside your videos! ...They are listening for those keywords, so you can't even SAY them!
Most business owners don't even realize that their business is being listed on dozens of online website directories... often with information that is WRONG and HURTING their Google rank and SEO!
For 150 years, the yellow pages were the go-to source when you needed a business or service. So when you opened your business, you got yourself into the yellow pages, and you were prepared to pay something a month to do it because that’s where everybody went to find that business or service.
Networking and referrals are the main way that I have grown my web design company in San Diego since 2006.
There are a ton of local groups that you can become involved with!
(If you haven’t seen it yet, check out my last post where I talk in general about business networking.)
Networking in your local community is one of the best ways to grow your small business.
Networking and referrals are the main way that I have grown my website design business in San Diego since 2006. There are a ton of local groups that you can become involved with. You will find meetings at all times of day...some meet for breakfast, some for lunch, and some have an after dinner / cocktail feel. One group I attend says, “Never eat alone!”
Of course you want to grow your own business, and yet... the best way to do so is to look for opportunities to help other people! It’s really a Win-Win situation... as you are on the lookout for referrals for other professionals, they are on the lookout for referrals for you!
